Subject: THE PERSIAN GULF - Historical Nomenclature
To: sahand3707@yahoo.com
Dear friend
As historical publishers we are aware that the term 'Persian Gulf'
is the traditional name of that body of water, and is also the term
specified by the United Nations. Numerous of our publications use this
term, such as 'Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf,' 'Persian Gulf Historical
Summaries,' 'Political Diaries of the Persian Gulf,' 'Records of the
Persian Gulf Pearl Fisheries,' etc.
As it happens our map collections include more than one Aramco map
from the early 1950s referring to 'al-khaleej al-farsi.'
In one or two cases in the past we have used the terms '! Gulf' or
'Arab Gulf' where the published material referred to the Arab side only.
In the case of the title you have recently noticed - one of our older
titles concerning oil concessions on the Arab side - we will change
this title when the time comes for a reprint. For some time now we have
not used any other than the term 'Persian Gulf' in our work.
We stress that we are independent publishers of the historical record
for the benefit of scholars, and we are free of any financial influence
and any political or governmental affiliation.
Sincerely
James M Dening, Publisher
