To Whom It May Concern:
Subject: Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf
Dear Sir or Madam:
In the past few days, news has emerged that the Saudi Arabian government
was attempting to use another name rather than the proper name of the
Persian Gulf. Details were scare, but the few details that were revealed
stated that it was set forth in printed material regarding the Islamic
games to be held in Saudi Arabia next year.
We were very happy to hear that an Iranian governmental agency refused
to send participants to the games until this issue was resolved. According
to the article, it has been resolved, and Iran will be represented at
the Islamic games by our athletes.
We write to you today because, while we were proud of the fact that
the authorities in Iran noticed this disregard and followed up to resolve
it, the exact resolution of the issue has not been disclosed. Did the
Saudi Arabians agree to use the proper name of the Persian Gulf? Anything
less than use of the name Persian Gulf will be unacceptable to the Iranian
nation. In this area regarding the integrity of one of our most historically
significant landmarks, there is no room whatsoever for compromise.
Therefore, while we are grateful to these representatives that upheld
Iranian honor and dignity, we would request a more detailed explanation
regarding the nature of the agreement that resolved this matter.
We eagerly anticipate a reply to our questions. On behalf of Persian
Gulf Task Force members,
Sincerely,
Mohammad Ala, Board Member
