Subject: Persian Gulf!

To Whom It may Concern,
First of all I'm a big fan of your site and of your books. You do a great job and you are a big help for a lot of people around the world.
But the reason why I write this email is something else. I was surfing around and was looking for some countries around the Persian Gulf. It was interesting to see that if you(Lonely Planet) show a map of an Arabian country you always write Arabian Gulf, but if you show the map of Iran you write Persian Gulf. Is it your way of being "political correct"? I'm sure, all of you are educated enough to know that there was, is and will be only one official and true name for this gulf and it is: Persian Gulf.

Herodotes, the famous Greek historian, mentioned the name of Persian Gulf more than 2000 years ago. Marco Polo mentioned several times the beauty of the Persian Gulf in his travel books and so did hundreds of other historians and Authors.

The name of The Arabian Gulf was mentioned first in the fifties by Jamal Abdolnasser, the Egyptian leader. He wanted to unite the Arabs and it didn't matter which instruments he used for his aims. One of them was proclaiming Arabian Gulf instead of Persian
Gulf. As we know he was not that successful with his ideology but unfortunately the name of Arabian Gulf is still alive.

I hope you and your society don't care about any ideological paths and you will give Persian Gulf its name back in your maps soon.

Thanks & regards,
Ali Sabetian

Dear Emma,

I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to express my special thanks to you and to your team. I hope you remember our last e-conversation 7 months ago and I'm very glad to see that my message was not ignored. The responsible person at Lonely Planet reacted and did really correct the names.
The Gulf got back its real name "Persian Gulf".

Thanks again & best regards
