TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (Mehr News Agency) -- The Iranian Navy successfully
test-fired a long-range smart missile on the ninth day of the nationwide
"Zolfaghar Blow" war games, the spokesman of the maneuvers
announced shortly after the test.
"The missile, called Saqeb (piercing), built by Iranian defense
industries, has considerable range and destructive power and high speed
and can be launched from any type of floating site," Admiral Habibi
Sayyari told reporters on Sunday.
"These ultramodern missiles will enable the naval forces to defend
the Persian Gulf border of the country more robustly and efficiently,"
he added.
The Navy also conducted special military maneuvers using its Tareq,
Nahang, and Ghadir submarines on Sunday.
Twelve army divisions along with air and naval forces and missile units
are involved in the military exercise, which began in the southeastern
province of Sistan-Baluchestan on August 19.
